Each of us live our little lives replete with the worries concerns and challenges that make up our daily routine, or daily grind, or whatever you want to call it. Whether we like or not, the lot we have in life is what we have and what we know. It is ours. In most cases, it is pretty much unique to each one of us alone, and this is the most important concern in the world to us. With all the experiences that help define who each of us are, their are a few billion other people on the earth going through their day-to-day ritual, each individual hoping to make a little headway on their own all-important laundry lists. All the while sun above goes on shining and warming, taken for granted by most. But it above all else may be our one common experience no matter who we are or were we live.
When I was initially confronted with the art of Eddie Martinez, I was struck with several moments of unexpected emotions: Wonder, tenderness, curiosity. I was taken back to when I was a kid in the summer and had not a care in the world. How good it was to remember to feel the sun again.
