There’s a Lungfish album entitled Talking Songs for Walking. Although
the two groups sound nothing alike, that phrase nicely describes Vancouver’s
Jerk With a Bomb: Their music proceeds at a walking tempo, sometimes
brisk, sometimes languorous, but always even, always regular. Jerk With
a Bomb is a subtle band. Upon your first listen, the unadorned guitars,
embittered vocals, and punchy drums might not sound as distinctive as
some of their contemporaries. Spin their record twice, three times, four – it’s
then that the grit, the substance starts to make itself known. This is
ground-level music, brooding rock with an undeniable pull to it
