“Let’s do the math shall we.”
Dominic Duval is quickly contemplating the span of his recording career within the greater context of his life as a musician.
“ Three years of recording and forty-five years of thinking about it,” he computes.
He is not exaggerating, although in reality, it’s been closer to six.
Duval’s extraordinary reputation as a musician has materialized almost out of nowhere. Nearly every recording on which he has played has been notable. He has achieved what others strive for in their recording careers in very little time, an output of literally dozens of albums in barely over five years’ time. Spending much of his adult life in a self-imposed music industry exile, Duval certainly didn’t spend that time hibernating, with his bass resting in a corner of his house, leaning against a wall in solemn slumber.
“ I don’t think there is a day I can remember when I haven’t been involved in music in some manor,” reflects Duval. “Now, my son is reintroducing me to the classics and I still find myself in awe. The sheer volume of so much great music, which has come before us, and is still going on even today, is mind-boggling. We are never too old to discover the joy of life’s sounds.”
