There is a saying about where I live that sums the northern Michigan climate perfectly. “Don’t like the weather? Give it fifteen minutes; it’ll change.”
In short, with all the notice of a sudden gust of wind, a day’s weather can send a barometer into a tizzy, as a golden summer afternoon can turn threatening- and then deliver on that threat without prejudice- in scarcely a moment’s notice. It’s not uncommon in the early-winter to awake to an inch of newfallen snow, have it melt by noon, then watch the rain fall, later feel the temperature drop precipitously, and then spend the evening slipping across sheets of black ice.
Those who take solace in the adventurous weather have a great appreciation in its infinite variety, and in some cases, there are those who actually revel in the severity. Those who don’t, spend their winters in Florida.
