JOHN TRIPPE, JEREMY FISH, BOB KRONBAUER AND MATT IRVING
JOIN FORCES TO CREATE NEW ONLINE MARKETPLACE.
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. DECEMBER 12th, 2005—
The four dudes mentioned in the above headline have, as stated in that
headline, joined forces! FecalFace.com, DelphiCollective.com and
Crownfarmer.com have all shut the doors of their small online stores to
create one supermega small store. The creative content of the sites will
continue in the same direction, but where their stores once lived will now
be links to their new Umbrella project.
Each of the 4 creative, honest business owners and artists found themselves
in a dilemma with their separate mailorder web sites - they didn't have the
time to individually focus on their creative projects while taking hours
aside to deal with the increasing number of orders they were getting. So
they decided to team up and form Umbrella Market, an online boutique where
you can buy from all of their individual brands and receive them in the same
package. They're already taking on other brands (such as Don Pendleton's new
" Dark Room" line) and In the future plan to bring the folks more homegrown,
DIY, creative products that are hard to get and/or produced in limited
quantities.
Just visit http://www.umbrellamarket.com and see what's happening.

Richard Hull/Dan Grzeca Painting in Outer Ear Festival's "Beckett Project"
Dan Grzeca collaborated with Richard Hull on a large (16 x 8 ft ) exquisite
corpse painting for this weekend's performance of the "Beckett Project"
(particulars below in the Outer Ear Press release).
I was really happy with the outcome of the painting, I hope that some
of you can brave the snow to see the performance. The picture below
was taken after we set up the canvas this week, so the lighting is not
that excellent, but it should give some idea of the scale and level of
detail.Friday December 9 at 7PM and Sunday December 11 at 3PM:
A special world premiere live performance by
Jaap Blonk, Ken Vandermark, and Lotta Melin: "The Beckett Project", a

There Goes the Neighborhood marks the full arrival of sixspace in our new gallery home of Culver City. As an introduction and celebration, we're thrilled to present an exhibition that features the work of five artists who are new to the gallery: Wendy Heldmann (Los Angeles), Sean Higgins (Los Angeles), Elizabeth Huey (Brooklyn), Jacob Magraw (Los Angeles), and D'nell Larson (Los Angeles) with an installation in the project room. Appropriately, though the artists differ stylistically, they all share an interest in exploring the landscape and diverse environments.

Subliminal Projects Presents
"I Do Adore"
curated by day19
featuring
Angela Boatwright, Abbey Drucker, Cheryl Dunn, Helena Kvarnstrom,
Jenny Lens, Ye Rin Mok, Chrissy Piper, Zen Sekizawa, Emily Shur,
Deanna Templeton, Claire Weiss.
Opening Reception Saturday 10th, 2005
8:00pm - 11:00pm
Show Dates
December 10th, 2005 to January 14th, 2006
" I Do Adore" is an exhibition of emerging and well established women photographers from across the world. Each of the featured artists have created names for themselves through various outlets from books to magazine features to exhibitions to ad campaigns. One thing that each of these women have in common is their passion and talent for photography. Their styles range from street documentation to editorial, fine art to photo journalism and portraiture. In a fusing of all these different styles from such influential photographers, "I Do Adore" brings with it all the character and emotion that these artists have captured from behind the lens. Every photographer that was invited to be a part of this exhibition has shown the exceptional ability to find the hidden energy within a setting and bring its image to life.

Subliminal Projects was created by artist Shepard Fairey and Blaze Blouin in 1995, as an artist collective, using skateboards as a fine art medium. By expanding beyond skateboards and apparel to include fine art prints, the group began drawing the attention of Aaron Rose, curator of Alleged Gallery in New York. As a result, Subliminal is one of the key groups responsible for cementing the relationship between the skateboard culture with the fine art world, working with then-unknown artists such as Phil Frost, Thomas Campbell, Mike Mills, Dave Aaron, and Mark Gonzales. By re-introducing Subliminal Projects to the current art scene, Amanada and Shepard Fairey continue to promote collaborations in the form of publications, art shows, and events between artists of varying disciplines. The resurrected Subliminal Projects is located on the second floor of the Wiltern Theater Building in the heart of Los Angeles, operating in the space formerly occupied by BLK/MRKT Gallery.

Tristeza Release New Album, Go on Tour
Yesterday (11.22.05), Better Looking Records issued Tristeza's newest album,
the double-LP A Colores, which features two new members in place of
long-departed guitarist and co-founder Jimmy LaValle, who, as we all know,
left the music business to join a monastery. Purportedly, this album was
recorded in upstate Michigan, which means it was recorded somewhere near us,
though we had no idea. We venture to guess it is a quiet album, something
the Boston Globe says lands "somewhere between Tortoise and Kraftwerk." Uh,
Can, anyone? They're on tour, too.

David Bowie/The Arcade Fire collaborate on hurricane relief effort
Merge Records has announced that starting today, 11.22.05, iTunes will be
" offering three exclusive downloads from The Arcade Fire and David Bowie."
This should really be a boon to Bowie's visibility. Recorded live in 9.2005
at Radio City Music Hall during a taping for Fashion Rocks (some CBS TV
special, we're told), the artists collaborated on two songs, "Wake Up"
(Arcade Fire) and "Five Years" (Bowie). Additionally, Bowie did a solo
version of "Life on Mars?" to round out the proceedings. Proceeds from the
downloads will go toward hurricane relief efforts in Florida and on the Gulf
Coast.

Paul Newman Release New Album
Did you know that Paul Newman released another record? Neither did we,
until today. Evidently, it came out in 4.05, but we missed it. And since
we're usually on top of such things, we thought maybe you missed it, too.
Paul Newman, whose members also do time in American Analog Set and I Love
You but I've Chosen Darkness, have released albums on My Pal God
and Emperor Jones since the release of their 12.97 debut, Frames Per Second.
EJ is responsible for releasing PN's latest, This is How it is Lost. All seven tracks
feature vocals. We're ordering it today from Midheaven. Check out the Paul Newman
feature in CP5.

Copper Press Nominated for 2006 Plug Award
Hooray for us!

We've been informed that Copper Press has been nominated for a 2006 Plug
Award. Nominations
were announced today, 11.21.05. We're in the 'Zine of the Year category.
There's also a Magazine of the Year category, for those that like to make
the distinction. If you'd like to vote for our print publication, that'd be
nice. Us? Well, we're voting for Sufjan Arcade Collective Say Yeah Cutie
for every category - even if we have to write them in. Thankfully, indie
rock has been reduced to five artists, which makes our purchasing decisions
so much easier.

Cameran European Tour Dates
Innocent Words announced it has signed the Austrian band
Cameran, and will be releasing the band's full-length recording in the
spring of 2006. Cameran has opened for Coheed and Cambria on the latter's
spring UK tour and has also shared the stage with artists as diverse as
Converge and Supergrass. The album, A Caesarean, doesn't have a firm spring
release date, but we're told the band has plans to tour the US in support of
it. Click for dates.

Saviours Tour Dates
Oakland's heavies, Saviours, will be heading out for roughly three weeks to
tour in support of their new record, an EP called Warship. Three guitars,
people. Heavy duty. Check here for dates.

Rogue Wave Tour Dates
Sub Pop's Rogue Wave has embarked upon a month-long US tour. Joining them
from 11.30 - 12.20 will be Mazarin, who we featured in CP5. Rogue Wave will
lay low at home in the Bay Area at the tour's conclusion before jet-setting
to Chicago for a New Year's Eve performance at the Metro in Chicago.
Because nothing says "party" like a Rogue Wave song. We're serious. What -
you thought we were kidding? Strange as it may seem, they're competing for
audience that night with fellow Sub Pop band (and fellow Inland Empire
Touring client) Wolf Parade, which is playing at Viaduct Theatre. Word is
that show is already sold-out. Hmm... Pitchfork must've given Wolf Parade a
higher review score. Click for dates.

Earth to Quake for Four More Days
We blame global warming - everyone panic, like, now!
Earth, the subject of one of our profiles in CP26 (due out late-January)
will be playing some East Coast shows, beginning tonight - well, last night
actually, but we didn't find out until this evening because our email was
down since before noon because we were buried beneath a foot of snow and
somehow that disrupted our cable service. Then a hitch pin on the drive
shaft of my snowblower came loose and fell out and I couldn't find it
anywhere. It happened twice. The first time, I found the pin, but the
second time, forget it. That sucker was buried. Buried in the snow. An
avalanche of snow. An avalanche caused by - wait for it - global warming.
I quickly ran inside and put in a DVD of Napoleon Dynamite to soothe my
troubled mind, but I knew - I knew I'd have to venture back outside to buy a
new hitch pin... and go to the bank. And so I did, huddled as I was in
sacks of cloth with sleeves and puffy chestal areas designed for maximum
warmth and protection - protection against... global warming... When I
returned, in my possession were three hitch pins - and two deposit slips
plus a $20 bill (I needed some cash for when the outage would spread to the
banks and ATMs. I knew it wouldn't be long... be long before they, too,
succumbed to the awesome destructive force of... - wait, where was I? Oh
yes, Earth is touring the East Coast. Good thing they're not in Northern
Michigan, 'cause it snowed like the dickens last night. Hoo-whee, Old Man
Winter sure knows how to make an entrance... Anyway, enjoy the shows!

The Appleseed Cast Signs to The Militia Group
Labelless in the wake of Tigerstyle Records' demise, which came as a
surprise seeing as they seemed to have a decent amount of cash with which to
work and had been signing a ton of adult contemporary indie bands - but what
do we know?, The Appleseed Cast has landed in the arms of The Militia Group
(Denison Witmer). Having recorded at Pachyderm Studios in October, the task
of lyric writing has now been taken up by Chris Crisci. John Congleton (The
Paper Chase, Explosions in the Sky, etc.) is at the helm as engineer. Oh,
and Nathan Richardson (Coalesce, The Casket Lottery) is now drumming for
them. Check out the feature we did on The Appleseed Cast in CP11.

Tom Vek: Trooper
Drummer quits, so that's where Tommy sits. Behind the drum kit...s
Tom Vek, is one cool cat. That is, at least he hasn't flipped out publicly
about having a drummer quit three dates into his tour to support the release
of his debut, We Have Sound. Vek, who played every instrument in addition
to singing on We Have Found (Star Time International), simply sat his ass
behind the drum kit and continued singing while his two remaining band
members, in the words of Gary Payton, did what they had to did. We hear
it's going well. That's nice. Remaining dates:

Tarentel Visual Artist Exhibit Opens This Week
Paul Clipson, whose films have accompanied Tarentel performances for
the last few years, will have his work featured in a solo show at The
Gallery of Urban Art in Emeryville, California. The exhibit, Films and
Landscapes: Drawings, Films & Videos by Paul Clipson, opens 11.19.05. The
opening reception will include a film screening with a sound performance by
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.

Three weeks later, on 12.09.05, Tarentel will perform at a benefit at the
gallery, which donates 10% of sales proceeds to a rotating selection of HIV
causes. A collaborative DVD is planned for release by the end of the year.
(Paul's films and Jefre's music appear on the limited-edition Two Suns DVD;
video clips and ordering information are available on the Root Strata site.

Tarentel's Home Ruckus, another limited-edition Root Strata release, is
no longer available directly from the label, but check your local indie
record store or try San Francisco's Aquarius Records.

The Music Fellowship has announced plans to release a series of four
Tarentel 12"s featuring music recorded over the past year. Read about
Tarentel in CP24.

Ex-Bauhaus founder David J to release album on Arena Rock
What the-?!?!
Some labels got all the luck. Some just work hard and persevere. And then,
there's labels like Arena Rock Recording Co., who simply move to Portland
and watch everything fall into place. Like this latest bit o' news that
ARRCO has released a limited edition (1000 copies) record by bassist David J
of Bauhaus/Love and Rockets (and Jazz Butcher - for a spell) fame.
According to the ARRCO site, the 36-minute Evocations is the first part of a
triptych, with the other two editions to be released within the next three
years on the same label. The project has aptly been dubbed Three. David J
is joined by cellist Joyce Rooks and sound manipulator Don C. Tyler, who
approached Mr. J after a set J and Rooks performed in Hollywood.

Sterling Back Together
Sweet!
Chicago's Sterling, who released two of the darkest, truly chilling
instrumental albums in recent and long-term memory before going on hiatus,
have resumed operations. This is excellent news. Now, to many of you, the
mere existence of this band is news - which is why we implore you to
subscribe to Copper Press. After all, we featured Sterling in CP16. But
it's cool: We can still salvage your reputation. How? Grab hold of the
CPSpecial and order every available back issue. And - what's that? No,
thank you.

Xiu Xiu Tour Dates
Xiu Xiu (though part of us will always know them best as Ten in the Swear
Jar) is touring again, this time in support of La Foret - a double-10" slab
that'll run you $30 ppd. in the US. It's on color vinyl, limited to 400
copies, and each cover is hand-screened. Suddenly, $30 seems a bargain.
But then, how are we gonna rip those songs for our iPods? Damn.
Conundrums. Go to xiuxiu.org to get mail-order details, but don't you dare
use the mail-order address for sending poetry or suicide notes. They ain't
readin' 'em. Anyway, there are a few dates left to close in the tour, but
we just couldn't wait to post the good news. Oh, and all the shows will be
with The Dead Science, a band on Absolutely Kosher. Click for dates.

Swords Cancel Tour Dates
Swords (Project) remembers they had that thing they had to go do; cancels
tour.

You know how a week or so ago, we posted tour dates for Dios Malos?
Evidently, we didn't mention they were touring with Swords (formerly The
Swords Project). Well, never mind, because Swords is off the tour. Van
trouble. Again and again. And again and again and again. So they went
home. In their accursed van, the bloody self-satisfied hunk o' subterfuge.
So, they'll rebound by opening for DCFC on 12.19 in Portland, then by
touring in the Aught Six. In a new van, let's hope. Hey, it could happen.

Headlights Re-installed, Prepped for Touring
Like, 50th Polyvinyl signing of 2005 hits the road
Champaign-Urbana, IL pop band Headlights finally caught the attention of
local label Polyvinyl Records, which, after signing an impressive six bands
in 2005, recently added Headlights to its roster and is repackaging and
re-releasing the band's The Enemies EP. Out as of 11.08.05, the EP has four
songs and evidently that's enough to put them on tour for a month. And so
it goes. Check here for tour dates.

In the quest to represent the best and the most unusual talent,
Art at Large & Co. is proud to present their latest online art venture and partnership.
tinyfineart.com

The style and focus of tinyfineart.com is to appeal to higher-end collectors and startup collectors with exquisite taste for small original art. As partners to this venture Pet Silvia & Tammey Stubbs of Art at Large and Stewart Lucas of upscale retail marketing and design initiatives - all in New York City - have joined as a tiny team to curate and market the work -  a mènage à trois, of sorts, between Mona Lisa, Johnny Rotten & Coco Chanel.

This venue will seek to fill the "void", so to speak, for those who collect art but have run out of wall space or just prefer small works. This will certainly pose a great opportunity for artists to sell a lot of work on a consistent basis. It will be heavily represented online and at significant Fine Arts venues.

Contemporary works of all subject matter - Paintings, Sculpture, Photography, Limited Edition Prints, LowBrow, Erotic, Ethnic, Folk Art, Gay-Friendly, Outsider - quite a range! - and all high-quality tiny originals made by the artist.

Classical New Jersey
New Jersey Arts Collective and Ionisation New Music Ensemble present New
Music New Jersey

12.02.05, 8pm*, Montclair Art Museum (3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair,
NJ; p.973746.5555 )
12.04.05, 3pm*, Two River Theater (21 Bridge Avenue, Red Bank, NJ;
p.732.345.1400)

- featuring the music of 1996 Pulitzer Prize-winner George Walker
and other composers who call the Garden State home

*Pre-Concert Panels with composers and performers at 7:15pm on Friday and
2:15pm on Sunday.

Much like their program last March, which featured several works by Melinda
Wagner, the first concert in the Ionisation New Music Ensemble's second
season highlights talented composers of concert music who reside in the
state of New Jersey. This performance features the music of George Walker.
Born in 1922, Walker has had a distinguished career as a composer, pianist,
and educator. Walker's compositional output includes over ninety works for a
diverse selection of forces. His compositions have received numerous awards
and accolades. Noteworthy among them is the 1996 Pulitzer Prize in Music,
which Walker was awarded for Lilacs, a piece for voice and orchestra that
was premiered by the Boston Symphony. Three works by Walker are heard on
this program: Prelude and Caprice for piano, a group of settings of Emily
Dickinson for soprano and piano, and the woodwind quintet Wind Set. Their
dates of composition span fifty-four years. Disparate in style, they provide
an excellent introduction to the diversity and scope of his music.
Walker taught at Rutgers University from 1969-92; two other composers
included on the Ionisation program share a Rutgers connection. David J.
Weisberg, whose Prelude and Fantasy for Wind Quintet will be performed,
currently teaches at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ; he received
his Ph.D. in composition from Rutgers. Noel Da Costa, who passed away in
2002, was a Professor of Music at Rutgers University for a number of years.
He is represented on this program by Two Songs for Julie-Ju, jazz inflected
settings of poems by George Houston Bass.

A pivotal fixture on the New Jersey new music scene serves to tie the rest
of the program together. Percussionist Peter Jarvis has long been a
dedicated advocate of contemporary music, as a solo artist, director of the
New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, and professor at several area colleges. His
involvement with the Composers Guild of New Jersey spawned the remaining two
works on the program: Masked Dances for vibraphone and electronics by Ron
Mazurek and Metaphor for Vibraphone by Robert Pollock. The works were both
commissioned by the NJCG for Jarvis as part of a collection of a dozen
vibraphone works by New Jersey composers, published by Calabrese Brothers
Music. Both Mazurek and Pollock helped to found the New Jersey Composer's
Guild; as such, it is especially fitting that their works are included on a
program celebrating composers in the Garden State.

Hella Tour Dates
What?!? Hella? Touring? Get out.
Hella. Can't get enough Hella? Seriously? You mean the double-CD
follow-up to the double-CD wasn't enough? The tour with System of a Down
didn't provide enough visibility? Wanted more after seeing them playing on
bills with none other than Les Claypool? Weren't there in person when they
presented the President with a Hella jersey on the front steps of 1600
Pennsylvania Avenue? Is there no end to the madness? Evidently not. Hella
is at it again. They've reentered US airspace after hotfooting it through
Canada to continue their tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan. Still need
more Hella? Than read the feature we did on them in CP11. Shit, that was a
long time ago. Check here for dates.

The Places release covers album, announce brief tour
Our nomadic friend Amy Annelle, who goes by the alias of The Places these
days as she writes her beautiful, creepy songs and travels our highways and
hunkers down in our cities, playing in taverns and all-ages clubs, in
houses, and busking on streets to pay for lunch and for gas, is playing a
few shows on her way to Denver, where she'll be laying low, working and
actually staying in one place for a spell.
She's also releasing a covers album. In her words, these are Songs that
have always been and always will be, by Ronnie Lane, Bert Jansch, The
Pretty Things and double-crossed mountain women on their deathbeds, as heard
through The Places. Mostly live performances from the independent radio
stations, tavern and tap room stages of this cursed plane. Also a couple
hard-to-find album tracks, which had been secreted at the end, behind
episodes of silence. Handmade." You may order your copy by either emailing
the_places@hotmail.com or by going to www.myspace.com/theplacesamyannelle
and offering $10 for a copy - postage-paid if you are in the USA. Foreign
folks: Do not despair. She'll work something out.
The album, Fawns with Fangs: Selections from the Dark Heart of the Thicket,
boasts a strong tracklisting, but we dare not list it here, lest we somehow
land Ms. Annelle in royalty hell. What we can tell you is she'll be selling
these CDs at the following four shows:
11.15 St. Louis, MO Lemp Arts
11.16 Kansas City, MO The Brick
11.17 Wichita, KS Kirby's Beer Store
11.22 Denver, CO Hi-Dive

Covington CD out today; CD-release show in Covington, KY to follow
Word has it band members legally changing names to Covington, too.
Covington, KY trio Covington will see the release of their debut, Devised Without
a Plan, today, 11.15.05, on Tiberius Records. While this marks their recorded
debut as a band, they did have a song appear on 2004's Organelle comp (a split
release between Tiberius, Save Your Servant, and State Bird Records). Covington
consists of three-fourths of the founding members of the instrumental band Ampline.
Covington bassist Kevin Schmidt is the only one still in Ampline, and in Covington,
Schmidt joins fellow 'mates Drew Bogner (drums) and Chris Charlton (guitar) in
providing vocals to their songs. The band will celebrate with a CD-release
show at The Mad Hatter in - where else? - Covington, KY, on 11.19.05 with
labelmates Thistle, and neighborhood pals Alone at 3 AM and Humans Bow Down.

Ampline to release limited-edition EP
Ampline (Tiberius Records) has announced on their new website
www.ampline.net the completion of Rosary, their new tentatively-titled,
twelve-song full-length. Set for an early-2006 release, this marks the
third full-length for the trio. Tiberius is releasing a limited-edition EP which
will contain four songs from the new long-player and is entitled Your Tongue
or Your Life
. According to the band's website, the EP will feature cases
screen-printed by hand. There's a good bet one of the band members is toiling
on this project at this very moment. These EPs will be available exclusively at
Tiberius Records or at Ampline shows while quantities last. They'll be playing a
few shows (weekend tours, etc.) through the rest of 2005 before buckling down to
seriously tour behind Rosary in 2006. We'll keep you posted.

Sonic Youth to Play Brazilian Festival
The institution that is Sonic Youth will be performing two nights in Brazil
as part of the Festival Caro E Rock. 11.26 has Sonic Youth in Sao Paulo,
while 11.27 sees them in Rio de Janeiro. If your Spanish is up to snuff,
you can glean some information here, but otherwise, if you're like us, all you
can take from the site is that NineInchNails, Iggy Pop, Suidical Tendencies
and Good Charlotte will also be playing. Holy crap! Good Charlotte!?!
We're so there. See you in Sao Paulo, suckas!

Splendid No More
Say it ain't so, George

Our favorite online music magazine, Splendidezine.com, is shutting down as
of New Year's Eve 2005. After nine years of reviewing everything - and we
mean everything - that found its way into their mailbox, the venerable
online publication cried, "No mas." Past-Copper Press contributor and
Splendid Editor-in-Chief George Zahora explains the decision and possible
future for himself and his contributors here.

Personally, we at Copper Press want to go on record by stating that we think
it sucks Splendid couldn't achieve or maintain the level of funding
necessary to grow and sustain itself. It is an indictment of "the
industry." They reviewed everything, which meant they gave every artist, no
matter how "small," a chance for people to read about their music. Splendid
is/was the antithesis of Pitchforkmedia.com, whose insular review policies
and self-aggrandizing writing and self-promotion have made it the disgusting
be-all, end-all of music criticism. Maybe Splendid's review-everything
policy was its own undoing, from a financial and status standpoint. Maybe
is should have been more discerning and arrogant. But if discerning means
sliding a Spoon review next to a review of a Miss Elliott CD or fucking
Destiny's Child, for Chrissakes - not to mention "news" of bands' new album
track lists ("Dude, Radiohead has a song I haven't heard on their new album
that's going to be called "Death of the Gurgle." You know this album's
going to rule!" - seriously, how is this news?!?!) - then we'll take
indiscriminate and self-effacing any day. But hey, that don't drive up the
hit count.

Farewell, Splendid. From some cats that read your site every day (and found
out about countless bands from doing so), you will be missed.

Shuttlecock Show News
Shuttlecock, a guitar/drums duo unlike any other, will be dividing their
time this week between their native land of Ohio and the bustling metropolis
that is Chicago, playing four shows in the process. Shuttlecock, as you may
recall was featured in CP14. After releasing a full-length on Action Driver
an EP on Friction and one on their own Iron Compass label, the band is
presently shopping their newest material in the wake of Action Driver's
demise.

Neurosis' Scott Kelly to Play Shows
This doesn't happen often, so it's news. Scott Kelly of Neurosis will be
performing two shows next week, both acoustic. Members of Oxbow will be
performing, also in the acoustic setting. Acoustic Oxbow: That should be
interesting. Naked penises and acoustic guitars. "I gave my love a chicken
that had no bone..." Chilling.

Great Lake Swimmers to tour
This tour would have been a lot cooler had there been actual swimming
involved.

Canadian troubadour Tony Dekker, who calls his unit the Great Lake Swimmers,
will be touring, starting tomorrow. The tour begins in Arizona, which, last
we checked, is a helluva long way from Canada. In fact, it's obviously much
closer to our other unsecured border in Mexico. We at Copper Press are
clamoring for Mr. Dekker to live up to his band moniker by challenging
himself to swim across the largest body of water in each locale on the tour
- and wrestle a crocodile in the briny waters of Australia. And what's with
there being no Michigan dates on this tour? We are the Great Lakes State,
after all. Ah well. Read about GLS in the upcoming issue of Copper Press,
the soon to be released CP25. And read a review here .

Schooner Embark Upon Short Voyage
Recent Copper Press feature darlings to sail the East Coast - by van.
Ssshhh. Don't tell anyone, but the Triangle is in the midst of a
resurgence. Not since the heyday of the early-to-mid-'90s, when the likes
of Polvo, HMS Cervix, Breadwinner, Pipe, Erectus Monotone and countless
other fantastic bands roamed the fertile North Carolinian soil has the area
seen so many talented groups out and about at the same time. Today we have
Ticonderoga, The Physics of Meaning, The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby
Sellers, Des Ark, Bellafea, The Rosebuds, and Schooner - to name but a few.
And they're all touring! Ticonderoga is out with TPOM in the South for two
weeks, and Schooner is about to hit the East Coast. Check out our Schooner
feature in CP22. Click here for tour dates.

" GALAXIE"
art exhibition of works by
Lynne Naylor & Chris Reccardi
448 N. Palm Canyon, Palm Springs, CA
Opens Sat. Nov. 19, 7-10 pm
This is an art show featuring original paintings by Lynne Naylor & Chris Reccardi as they present their fantastically mod art from outer space. These paintings will look amazing in any mid-century modern dwelling, intergalactic pad or any other architectural type home.
Admission is free and this event is open to the public. Dress is casual and come to enjoy this great art as well as complimentary music, snacks and beverages.

Lynne Naylor was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, attended the Sheridan Animation School in Ontario, and began her career in the Animation mecca of Los Angeles.
In the past twenty years, Lynne has worked at nearly every studio in Southern California. She helped create Ren & Stimpy at Spumco, developed features with Brad Bird at ,Turner, worked with Ralph Bakshi on The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse, and designed some very sexy girls in Bruce Timm's Batman. Not to mention her animation on the Rolling Stone's "Harlem Shuffle" video, work on Roger Rabbit and The PowerpuffGirls. In 1997 She produced and directed Universal's direct-to-video Animated Feature "Hercules and Xena: The Battle For Mount Olympus". At Cartoon Network Studios she was a key character designer on the critically acclaimed "Samurai Jack" and the "Star Wars: Clone Wars" micro-series. Lynne is currently at Walt Disney TV Animation, Art Directing on a soon to be announced Animated series.....
In 2000, Lynne began showing work in Burning Brush Art Auctions, where her paintings have been snapped up alarmingly fast. Lynne's work can also be seen in M Modern Gallery, and she is currently painting for a future calendar, and is developing a new line of T-Shirts, now available at her website. Lynne won the very prestigious Reuben Award in 2002, presented by the National Cartoonists Society. In February 2003, Lynne won an Annie Award from ASIFA for her outstanding acheivement in Character Design for T.V Animation.

Chris Reccardi grew up in the suburban wasteland of Long Island, NY, the youngest of 9 kids. His parents were Catholic.
The principal exports of Long Island are Irish-Italians, drunks, and "art metal" guitarists. And clams.
In 1986 Chris vacated the drunk driving capital of the U.S.A. and headed for California to pursue art, animation, and music. In the last 17 years he has contributed to such award-winning Animated projects as "The Ren & Stimpy Show", "The Powerpuff Girls", "Samurai Jack" and "Shrek 3"(due out in 2006), and has enjoyed the title of Director, Storyboard Artist, Animator, Character Designer and Music composer. He is currently Directing on Disney's "Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!", created by the highly talented Ciro Nieli. He is also currently co-producing and directing "The Modifyers", a new animated short for Nickelodeon based on an original series concept. It is due for completion in July 2005.
Chris began showing fine art in the Burning Brush Art Auctions, hosted by the great Tim Biskup . His work has sold consistently to collectors of all tastes and has been featured at La La Land and Gallery 1988 in Hollywood, CA and M Modern Gallery in Palm Springs, CA.
Chris has composed and performed music for "The Ren & Stimpy Show" (including the title themes) and for "IMP, Inc." an original Animated short for Cartoon Network. He's played Bass and Guitar in a variety of local groups in L.A. and is currently completing a self-produced Solo Album due out in 2006....as well as the music score for the aformentioned short "The Modifyers" for Nickelodeon.
In 2002, Chris won a Reuben Award from the National Cartoonists Society for Storyboard on Samurai Jack, and a nomination for a 2005 Annie Award from ASIFA for Character Design.
Chris Reccardi lives in Los Angeles with his wife (and pinup artist extraordinaire) Lynne Naylor.

New Sicbay Album Out Today
Twin Cities-based "blasting punk trio" (Star Tribune) will have their third
long-player released today, the second of which they're issuing on the
54º40' or Fight! imprint (owned by the parent company of this here
publication). For a limited time, Sicbay's Suspicious Icons can be
purchased along with the new EP by Valina and Ticonderoga's newest album,
all for $30 (link). Suspicious Icons is jagged, economical - a
compact offering of frenetic stabs of asymmetric guitar figures and pop
songs mangled by crushed glass. Ah yes.

The Joggers to tour
Track-suited lead singer reported to have stammered, "I just felt like
run-ning" and continued jogging from show to show with band - and fellow
runners Go Go Go Airheart - in tow No word on Nike
sponsorship, but hey, shit happens. Oh, and their respective labels will
tell you the real reason for the tour is the bands are out in support of new
records. Click here for dates.

Two Gallants to tour Europe

riding. Luckily for Two Gallants, they're of that hip band configuration.

Singer in search of missing letters for last name, plays shows along the
way. We like to think he's a distant relative of the late, great Bill

awesome how the East Coast-centric media just doesn't care. Sorry Boston.
Sorry New York. Click here for tour dates.

Carolyn Weltman
Fresh Girls
November 10 - 30, 2005
Art at Large is proud to present the latest works by Carolyn Weltman.
Getting a good likeness from her models is not one of Carolyn’s priorities.
Getting a gesture that best represents the model’s inner feeling, is. In
fact, it is quite rare to see faces in these works, for Carolyn is much more
concerned with the vibration of the figure.
She works out the composition with charcoal, paper and gesso. Of late,
Weltman is less concerned with her computer drawings, and the unique prints
that she renders, than putting it all on with paint. Working with layers of
oil and gesso on 300# rag paper, she works the surface into a frenzy of
texture, color and defined areas of flesh in an expressionist style. Her
flowing lines are superb and captivating, hinting at the model’s place
within the muted backgrounds.
Carolyn Weltman has consistently sold her work at auction for the New York
Academy of Art through both Christies and Sothebys over the last 7 years.
The exhibition opens with an artist reception on:
Thursday, November 10, 2005, 6 - 9:00pm:

White Sox Winner!
You can put it on the board, yes!
Our editor-in-chief's lifelong love affair with the middle-western Chicago
White Sox has survived ridiculous uniforms (softball unis, anyone?), a
strike when the team was clearly the league's best, lunatic "fans" attacking
an umpire, Albert Belle, mediocrity, and crushing playoff exits in '83, '93
and 2000. All of those sins and transgressions have been warshed away by
the 2005 team that captured hearts and silenced doubters by leading
wire-to-wire, becoming only the fifth team in MLB history (a short list that
includes the '27 Yankees and '84 Tigers, we might add) to do so and win the
World Series. Our MVP is Joe Crede for his stellar defense and clutch
hitting, but really, this was a team effort through and through.
Congratulations to the White Sox. Chicago's proud of you! White Sox!
White Sox! Go Go White Sox!

54º40' or Fight! gets all up in your myspace
54º40' or Fight!, it of the alliterative label name and stellar roster, has
found itself with a Myspace.com account. Their erstwhile intern, Patrick
Carroll (of the band Tanooki Suit myspace.com/tanookisuit), now a student at
Western Michigan University, surprised the label executives one evening by
unveiling www.myspace.com/5440orfight before them. There was much clucking
of tongues and pensive noddings of the head, and glassily clueless looks
abounded. "Myspace? What the hell for?" To network, baby. And so it was.
Dig it.

The Places to tour Midwest
US's most underrated nomadic songstress takes to the road again.
The visas of a band (called C) due to tour here from the Czech republic did
not come through - fallen, perhaps between an almond-colored file cabinet
and a cubicle wall in a five-story cement office building on the outskirts
of Usti nad Labem? - but fear not! Free-spirited musical mercenaries THE
PLACES, consisting of AMY ANNELLE and improv/out-rock drummer ADAM KRINEY
would hate to see a Midwest music venue fall still. Hell, they'll play the
salad bar at the Sizzler in Ponca City on a Tuesday Night if it means they
get to find out what lurks in the Valley of the Vapors.
[We hate fluorescent lights and shatter every cursed pulsing tube we can.].

As you may recall, The Places opened for The Decemberists on a five-week US
tour shortly after the latter became the critic's darling. The Places has
releases out on Absolutely Kosher and Hush Records and is currently working

October. Singer/guitarist April Goettle is sultry but serious, meaning she
don't just look real good, she sing real good, too, see? And AP (of The
Building Press), his guitar gets nastier than a Rapeman riff run through an
industrial-sized plastic shredder. Think Royal Trux without the drugs and
with better songs, Big Black if Albini wore a dress (and had a lower voice),
and maybe the whole goddamned state of Memphis - er, Tennessee.

The Planet The to tour
They're playing Michigan, too. Traverse City!? What the-!?! We live
there!

Portland's finest (we use that a lot: "So and so's finest." What the hell,
we like it.) will be touring for the first time since they disappeared and
weren't seen at the final three shows of their spring 2004 tour. Welcome
back, TPT. Let's hope the world recognizes the genius of your cracked
vision. And buys the hell out of your debut, Physical Angel.

The Life and Times to tour
Out to prove the flat end of the earth was more than just a suburban hymn...

With the KC Royals narrowly missing the playoffs yet again, the fine
Midwestern city needed a morale booster; Allen Epley sensed it. Knowing
what he needed to do, Epley has rounded up his bandmates, loaded the van
with gear and the essential foodstuffs and nudey magazines, and on Thursday,
will get in the rig on a mission. That mission? To improve KC's overall
attendance record. TLAT's draw on this tour will likely beat that of the
Royals this season at home.

For those of you in Stockholm come on over! Both Misaki and Taylor are here in town.

The opening is hosted along with our pals at 76. At 9 the evening continues at Tranan.

Well if you want to hear the sketches of those tracks, check out AmAnSet.com where the band will be posting demo versions of each and every song on "Set Free".  Cool!  The band return this week from a successful tour through Europe and will be in Japan for shows before returning for a US tour.

Morricone Youth announces release date for new album

NYC’s Morricone Youth, whose members’ past and current band membership list includes Crash Worship, Creedle, aMiniature, Pretendo, The DaoSon For, Big Numbers, will release their second album, and first with new signer Dreiky Caprice (ex-Crash Worship), on 10.04.05 via Country Club Records.
The group performs music written for film and television by such composers as Lalo Schifrin, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, Henry Mancini, and, of course, Ennio Morricone, among many.
Their arrangements run the gamut from spot on interpretations to rocked out orchestrations. Recently, the band began writing original material in a similar soundtrack-esque vein, which resulted in their new album, Silenzio Violento.

Copper Press renovation sale!

Whilst our behind-the-scenes web design wizard Kimberly Sears continues to both simultaneously fancify and simplify this here Copper Press site, we couldn't just sit idly by while she worked. Well, we could - and, in fact, one of us (uh, me, aka Steve) is going camping Thursday through Sunday of this week - but that wouldn't be fair. So, we decided to rack our brains to come up with a new sale for you, our dear readers and visitors. And here it is:

Purchase the newest issue, CP24, and get our most recent issue, the still-fresh-as-a-daisy CP23, for free. That's right: $5 gets you both issues. Save $5! Hip grocery people call this a BOGO (buy one get one free). When I was in the sales business, folks went nuts for the Oscar Mayer weiners and bologna when they went BOGO.

So, for a limited time, stock up on delicious Copper Press products from your publisher's freezer!

So, for $5 plus $1 for shipping costs (which includes delivery confirmation), you can get the two newest issues of Copper Press.

Also, you may now use PayPal to purchase items from Copper Press. Send $6 to paypal@copperpress.com and be sure include your name and address. If you prefer, you may still use CCNow to purchase this special by going here:
Purchase the Renovtion Special now. This sale will expire, unlike Oscar Mayer products, a single package of which will outlast us all, on August 21st, so act quickly!
