More Animals of the Artic
An Appendix of Whaling Terms
Standard

Powerfully appealing, this epic of a release presents music dripping with reverb and atmosphere that is beautiful, haunting and rich. Nice touch with the sultry harmonica leads in “John the Baptist.” The instrumentation is well crafted, elegant and refined. Their gift of finding within themselves the most provocative and dramatic of melodies is truly what makes this group undeniably irresistible and unforgettable. Their use of dynamics is a plus, and darker, mysterious content in this package makes one feel as if they really are trapped in all the magic, beauty and horrors of the Arctic. “Coyoter” continues the dreamy, ethereal moods, complete with startling percussion, heavy keys and strings. Perhaps even though More Animals’ trademark sound is established with the lush, reverb-laced vocals and harmonies, one weakness is their inability to deliver a complete record with a change in pacing and melodic balance. Yes, their music is unique and inescapable - some songs leave you feeling like your hurtling in space – but this album is not for the average listener. Some hardcore appreciation and repeated listens must be done to fully appreciate and somehow understand this richly diverse sounding band of complexity. - Shawn M. Haney (2006, The Daily Copper)
