The Anthem Sound
The Anthem Sound
Eyeball

The Anthem Sound’s debut consists of four songs written by five guys who should have waited at least two years before committing one tune to tape. The music’s not particularly amateurish or bad - it draws on Death Cab For Cutie, Bloc Party and Explosions in the Sky for influence - it just doesn’t jell, thus tracks such as “Lunar,” “The Promise” and “Poised To Conquer” never really develop the requisite heft that’d send them over the freaking edge into memorable land. This is the kind of record that stupefies you, makes you wonder why everyone’s always in such a bloody rush to race into the studio and takes far longer to listen to and critique than the artist behind it spent in developing it.
