Apostle of Hustle

I don't know if this is their intentional age group or not, but my 18-month-old just loves the beginning of this album. She's a huge fan of finger-picking to begin with, and from the first moment that I put this disc on, she was twirling around in the living room, shrieking at the top of her lungs and whacking herself on the head with both hands - all signs of inner peace and contentment on her part. However, I think Apostle of Hustle lost her as their primary target audience as the album goes on, transitioning from a quieter album with defined guitar finger-picking and minimal accompaniment to a noisier pop animal with big static washes, crashing percussion and piles of guitar feedback-although this is where my own interest piqued, and, I assume, the interest of others of the thirty-plus set. Throughout her first and second listening to the album, though, my daughter did retain her interest in chewing on the cardboard CD case, and screamed at me for a long time after I took it away from her. – Holly Day
