You know, I love this record, but I had to check the liner notes and make sure that this wasn’t another Conor Oberst project, because the male vocals and even the arrangements remind me so much of Bright Eyes it’s uncanny. I don’t mind, because I love Bright Eyes, but it’s always strange to hear someone wear their influences so prominently on their sleeve. So anyway, this is a bright, upbeat-sounding collection of bittersweet melancholy love songs with shaky, vulnerable-sounding male vocals, pleasant corresponding backup female vocals, lots of keyboards and strange sound effects that, if you’re a big Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst fan, you should like this, too. – Holly Day (2005, The Daily Copper)
