Hexstatic
When Robots Go Bad
Ninja Tune

For years Hexstatic has always provided the audio/visual delights for the likes of Coldcut but on their own, they’ve been a forced to be reckoned with in the realm of electronica. The music on this album does sound like it lives up to its titles namesake. The UK duo of Stuart Hill and Robin Brunson have taken their love of electro to a bit of an OCD level but doesn’t overdo it too much making some think that the predictions of a future war among humans and cyborgs may just be one big crunk shindig. Hexstatic keeps it bumping with a chunky/funky assortment of breakbeats with a chic swagger that’ll leave some digging through their crates for their old Afrika Bambaataa jawn on the wax or the mid to late-90s mixtapes from the likes of DJ Icey and Rennie Pilgrim. Either way you should be able to dance to this jawn with a pair of glosticks and not look like a total passé obsessed douche bag… just as long as this album is playing. - Chris Pacifico (2007, The Daily Copper)
