Beta Valentine
The Proposition
Has Anyone Ever Told You?

Clattering and frantic, Austin TX’s Beta Valentine have all the energy and patience of a temper-tantrum throwing two year old, kicking and screeching and demanding that you pay attention. Not satisfied with the pedestrian “loud-soft-loud” piffle that permeates the air like a plague, Beta Valentine, with little exception, jump right to the “loud” and stay there, hammering the point home with broken drumheads, sweat-stained guitars and bloody knuckles. Embracing dissonance with a fervor not seen since June of ’44, The Proposition leaps about like an epileptic on hot coals, twisting and bending notes into submission like Jack the fucking Ripper. The shrieking and frenzied twin vocals, compliments of guitarist Joseph Benjamin and bassist Paul Tanzillo Jr., are delivered with such force that you can almost feel the spit flying out of the speakers, and the compelling rhythm section plows forward in fits and starts; sometimes controlled but never delicate. If you’re looking for dynamics, look elsewhere. If you’re looking to get your ass kicked, you came to the right place. – James Reader (2006, The Daily Copper)
