Yeah, yeah, yeah, Kasey Anderson’s listened to a few Steve Earle and Whiskey Town albums but it’s clear, listening to Dead Roses (produced by Eric “Roscoe” Ambel), that these were the right ones, which he proves in finally crafted tunes such as “This Old Town” and “Dead Roses (And Blood Red Wine).” But there are plenty of other fine moments such as the soulful Elvis Costello-esque “Weary Heart” (Is it legal to break someone’s heart like that?) and “The Borderline,” which comes off as easy as the wind. An emerging and fascinating voice, Kasey Anderson’s Dead Roses is a must-have record. – Jedd Beaudoin |
