Petra

It’s
one thing to consider covering an entire album, another thing to do it
and still another thing yet to do it with one instrument - your own voice.
But in the hands of Petra Hayden the results are exactly what you’d expect
them to be - stunning, fresh and buoyant. Although the sound quality at times
is (refreshingly) “imperfect” by today’s standards, it lends
an extra layer of authenticity to a disc that demands you accept it on its
own terms. Perhaps most important in all of this is that Hayden’s taken
the music of one of the most testosterone-driven bands in its most testosterone-driven
era and given it a delicacy and shine that perhaps it didn’t need, but
is all the better for having it. Let’s be thankful for Petra Hayden,
we need more artists like her. |
