Hailing from Baltimore, MD, Trephine’s sound serves as an amalgamation of aggressive prog and groovier math rock stretched out longer than a piece of bubblegum in a cold dark room at the local insane asylum. Or something like that. Dig it, Will Doane shreds on both parts of “Go To Hell Mr. Wiggles,” “Metal Detector” and others, while Chuck Collins pours delicious lead lines and rhythm parts all over the place, kind of like a six-year-old who reaches high up for the Cocoa Puffs and spills them everywhere. Only it’s not messy. Anyway, in the end, this little hum jobber is further proof that instrumental-driven rock ‘n’ roll is the way and the light and all that shit. Watch these guys, they’re not just good, they’re grrrreeaaaat. – Jedd Beaudoin |
