Arcade Fire |
The band whose album Funeral proved to be amongst one of the most important debut releases in all of 21st century music have returned with another splendid opus in the form of Neon Bible. Never has such an album carried all the dramatic vigor and tense emotionalism of a Tennessee Williams play yet Win Butler and Regine Chassagne who are captains of the ship deliver an ecstatic gust of a symphonic prowess. Enormous choral harmonies and a plethora of instruments (most mastered by Chassagne herself such as the hurdy gurdy on “Keep the Car Running) is tossed along with the entire band’s us-against-the-world harmonies that meander with the treble and sonic motif of a Tim Burton film. Bigger can be better when speaking of the Arcade Fire, whose lush and opulent penchant has evolved along with their magnificent choral synergy to one of the years best albums that is ambrosia for the ears. - Chris Pacifico (2007, The Daily Copper) |
