Past Auto Interiors efforts carried an air of pretension about them. The waft of self-indulgent My Bloody Valentine rip offs did abound. But now the collective’s gone and grown up and learned how to focus on penning actual songs. Coming off at times like a slightly different take on Chicago-based pop kings of The Bon Mots, AI scores here with “I Suppose,” “Science Failed Me” and “Small Death.” Not everything here’s a keeper and it’s tough to say that the band has really honed its shtick but it’s coming closer. Perhaps the next album will be the one that sees these cats launch into the stream in which they really want to swim. - Jedd Beaudoin (2007, The Daily Copper) |
