Sedated Times EP

120 Days 2006 self-titled debut full-length was like one of those leftfield stunners that fell from out of nowhere like an asteroid falling from space. Nobody stateside saw it coming. That was probably a good thing seeing to it that it served as a new stylistic direction for the always chilly and never ending amount of artists hailing from the Scandinavian region of Europe. Based on a formula of drip-dropping synths and a series of flows that slapped hi-fives to Krautrock’s golden days, the reissue of the Sedated Times EP is from 2004 and shows the mold that 120 Days took on while making their bones.

Recorded while they were performing as the Beautiful People before doing the ol’ name switch-a-roo, Sedated’s palate ranges from moments of industrial cut shoegaze (“Let Me Come Down”), and other moments of half mellow/little spazzy/part melodic numbers like the early Catherine Wheel records. “Sleepless Nights #11” subliminally wears it love of the classic Kraftwerk track “Metal on Metal” on it’s sleeve and a somewhat pop twist is delved into with “Justine” featuring a murky but catchy lyrical hook that goes “Oh Justine.” Perhaps they wrote it about Justine Bateman from Family Ties but then again, how would 120 Days be privy to my woman I had a crush on while I was in the 3rd grade? - Chris Pacifico (2007, The Daily Copper)
