Recalling the most majestic, least histrionic
elements of classic Yes and capitalizing on groovy, egalitarian folk fuck
that’d make Wayne Coyne and Co. drop
the studio-as-instrument idea and get down to maybe makin’ a couple records
on the back porch or front lawn, Arizona’s bringing its heady 2006 release
back to our attention and for good reason. This is the kind of stuff you should
have been listening to more of a while back. See, Ben Wigler’s vocals
recall the soothing sweetness of Yes’ Jon Anderson but the music that
buoys along his thoughtful - and thought-provoking vocalizations - is sweet
and summery, as soothing as a mother’s voice and sultry as your lover’s.
Check out “Some Kind Of Chill,” “Away” and “Waking
Up” for best results. Track this down and let it soak into your psyche.
This is the music of tomorrow and, let’s hope, today. - Jedd Beaudoin
